How to Catch a Florida Lobster While Snorkeling |
|
Florida lobster season runs from August 6 through March 31. Lobstering is fun and adventurous with many different ways to catch lobsters.
One way to catch Florida lobsters is with your whole family involved and snorkelling is the way to go. So get out your snorkelling gear and have a try.
During the day the lobsters are often hiding, but they can be found in water as shallow as 4 feet to as deep as you can hold your breath.
This makes it possible for snorkelers to catch a few Florida lobsters.
The hardest part about catching lobsters is understanding their defensive and escape tactics.
When a lobster is frightened it will jump backwards very quickly. This is why you put the
lobster net behind the lobster and use the tickle stick to frighten them into jumping into your waiting net.
When you are snorkeling, you have to have some patience and enjoy the challenge. Here are some easy steps to help with you success.
- Spot the lobster
- Surface to take a big deep breath
- Then quickly dive to the bottom
- Setup with your lobster net behind the lobster
- Use your tickle stick to make the lobster jump into the waiting net
It is much easier to use your scuba gear for deeper waters, but not everyone is qualified or certified so
snorkeling brings lobstering to anyone and everyone who wants to try.
Kids and adults can catch lobsters using this technique and they both have the same chances.
Snorkeling is not neccessarily the quickest or even the most successful method for catching
Florida lobsters, but it can be the most fun for the whole family.
